All part of this complete breakfast

There is something you need to know about my husband. He loves cereal. Eats it every single morning. Literally.

But not just any cereal. It's gotta be full of sugar. Sometimes it's Cinnamon Toast Crunch, sometimes Cap'n Crunch. His all-time favorite though is Cookie Crisp. (See above.)

Kevin waits until the cereal is on sale. (As in, waits until the store is basically giving it away.) Then he stocks up, and gleefully hoardes his purchases in the unfinished part of our basement. Each morning, the kids know to expect Daddy to give them a piece or two of said cereal. They love it. Occasionally they have been known to wake up early on purpose to make sure they catch him before he leaves for work.

Yet somehow, in spite of all the sugar and preservatives, the man is still functioning. He puts in a full-day at work, then puts in time at home working on our house. And he's doing a great job. I'm wondering if perhaps it's all that Cookie Crisp!

So here is my homage to Kevin and his sugar-coated-cereal-habit. I'm thinking a study should be done on the benefits of this stuff, because as much as I give him a horrible time about eating it every single day, he seems to have developed some super-human abilities over the past year in the areas of installing and fixing appliances, hanging doors, and remaking this place into something really nice.

Maybe the above photo of him with his drill should make it onto the next Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs box?????

How funny...my husband is the same way and he too waits until it's super cheap and will buy a ton at a time. Sadly I have sort of given up....I buy the less sugary versions and my kids will dump sugar on it...I now just make sure they get lots of veggies and fruits and at least one really good meal at the end of the day. I mean...if my husband is big and strong and healthier than me (who eats better than him) maybe there is something in those sugar cereal I'm missing out on.

So funny. Russ was joking this morning that his weight never changes; he even got on the scale this morning. He is the same weight that he was when we got married 25 years ago - give or take a few pounds. Pretty remarkable. He doesn't eat sweet cereal, but he loves lots of cream and sugar in his coffee.

Bear with me on this, but my kids were addicted to Lucky Charms. Like it was their crack, they had to have it, all the time. So I stopped buying it and made them eat Chex, Cheerios, Special K... But so you know what? With few exceptions, all cold cereal has a very high glycemic index. So... unless we are having steel cut oats or slow cook oatmeal (not instant), I'm basically feeding them crap. So if it's all crap anyway, even Cheerios, then why not let them have Lucky Charms? That's my theory anyway...

I'm glad Cookie Crisp gets Kevin through the day. :)

Wow. That was an error filled comment. I will try to proof before I publish in the future. :)

Kevin, that is awesome! Someday they will find that that sugar cereal is actually really good for you and gives you super human strength. hehe. =)

haha rachel it's true, most cold cereal is far from healthy. my kids have non-instant oatmeal and fruit (and sometimes eggs) every single morning, so they see cereal as a "treat." (as opposed to their father, who sees it as necessary for survival, heehee!)

Um. Where's the sale?

Well be assured, Mythbusters did prove that the sugary cereal has more nutrition than the box it comes in... so it isn't completely terrible :-P
