My feisty exterminator

You may not know it, but Kaitlyn--yes, my two-year-old--is by far the most self-assured, aggressive of my four children. She either takes things quite seriously, or is crazy and a ton of fun. But she means business. (As you can see in the above picture. That was her getting her hair cut at our house by my friend Shannon.)

This morning I came across literally the biggest spider I've ever seen. In the girls' bedroom. I am terrified of spiders and had Biniam run and grab some toilet paper, and I encouraged him to pick up the spider with it and throw it in the toilet. He kept trying but kept getting scared.

Enter Kaitlyn.

First she marched up to the spider, plopped down and started blowing on it, announcing that she was blowing fire. (This morning we read about how God sent fire down on Mt. Sinai when He was talking to Moses. Clearly this was her inspiration.) THEN she grabbed the TP, and grabbed up the spider, squishing it in the process. She threw it down angrily however, yelling that the spider had touched her. But she'd gotten the job done. Biniam picked up the spider and toilet paper and flushed it.

Mission accomplished.

By a two-year-old.

I love this kid! Here she is being goofy with her sister while we were baking cookies one day. She has a great sense of humor! But when it comes to killing spiders, yeah, she doesn't mess around.

So cool! Bella's like this too - unafraid of insects. Maybe it's b/c she's still innocent (probably) but I love it! The other day, we were on a walk and she bends down to look at something. Trav and I were talking and not paying attention. Then, we looked down and saw that she's holding a HUGE spider in her hand, passing it from fist to fist. Trav freaked out more than I did (he HATES spiders!)... I just cracked up. Such a little lady! Hey, as long as SOMEONE can kill them for me, I don't care who it is!

Kevin,

This brought to mind how Katy's Daddy used to enjoy playing with bugs when he was 2 years old. You'd especially spend a lot of time with the roly poly bugs. That sure cut down on the cast of buying toys! :)

Ugh! I just sprayed a few of them outside the house. There was a HUGE one a little while ago and Dan was able to get it to the ground and stomp it. Gives me the willies just thinking about it. I think Liz was the spider killer. Danielle hates 'em, too. But like you said, as long as there is someone who can kill them, that's fine.

I love how she looks pissed off in the majority of the pics you post of her! So funny. Well if she's old enough to kill spiders maybe it's time to get her out of diapers!

What's the fascination with blowing on insects?? Abby does that, too, but she gets her face so close to the creepy thing she's blowing on that I'm afraid she's going to suck it up into her mouth!
Go, brave Kaitlyn!

Okay, half way through, I was going to totally tout the awesomeness of chickens (my spider, bug, slug, weed and fertilizing problems have been solved with my little friends!)

BUT you apparently have the most awesome kid ever (well all of them are awesome!) AND if you ever move to Hawaii (I was once stalked by an evil cockroach that patrolled my front sidewalk), you will be totally safe!

P.S. Shoes might work better than toilet paper for spider killing!

Does she travel? I might like to borrow her at times. :)
