--it's a lot of work
--it was wise to go simple on the food
--we packed WAY too much food and clothing
--my kids whine, don't obey very well, and throw tantrums when they go days without naps
--i will never camp without an air mattress again
--your kids get really dirty
--seeing my kids splashing around in the water and giggling in their sleeping bags makes it all worth it!!!
So yeah a good time was had by all. My favorite part was on Saturday when the Iunker family took all of us (even little Kaitlyn), and Eden, out on their boat to go tubing. Each of our older kids got to ride with Daddy--the boys hated it, Anna LOVED it! (Yosef and Biniam did however enjoy getting to sit with Mr. Iunker and help "drive" the boat--they loved honking the horn!)The next day Anna went on the taco with Kevin and loved that even more--she kept wanting to go faster!
The following picture is of Anna digging in the sand with Jason Allshouse. She has really taken quite a liking to Jason (he's an "older boy" at 5 years old!) over the last several months. Later when I walked over there with Anna I asked her what the pile of mud was. "Jason calls it clay", she told me. HA!

The dirty kids is one of the hardest things for me to deal with when we are camping! Bennett all but rolls around in it. Can you imagine living somewhere with dirt floors in your house?! I am so spoiled! Simple is definitely the way to go with camping. I have learned over the years to bring half the food I think we will need and to prepare as much as I can beforehand. I still try to get the kids to nap so that we eliminate some of the "problems" that arise from cranky little ones. I am so glad that you were brave enough to try it. It creates such good memories for the family to spend that time together. Thanks for all the pictures!
you are one stellar mom! i so wish you lived here. or even just a little closer than 1000+ miles.
Glad it was a success. Kudos to you for having so few issues on the maiden voyage! You fared better than we did our first time out!
well jeannett, i'm guessing we were maybe overprepared b/c we're so used to bringing everything-but-the-kitchen-sink, what with four kids. you get used to anticipating stuff that you might need i think! (plus you gave me great pointers and that list was awesome!)
shelley i'm thinkin' you and keith would really like the denver area...
samantha i know, it was all i could to not hose the kids off every five seconds!!! i'm very impressed you're still able to do naps on these trips--good for you, it's so rough when the kids are tired!
Fun! Makes me wish we could have gone camping this year. We'll have to make up for it next year!
What a great trip! I wish I could have been there! Darin got off early on Sat and we had a big picnic at the park with his whole guard unit. So that was really nice.
I miss you guys so much, though!
Anna is so awesome, I love that she wanted to go faster on the taco. =) Katie Jane is so cute in her polka-dot swim suit. =) Caedra had the same suit when she was that little.
I'm glad you had fun!
Fun:).
