Halloween anticipation

Okay it's been a really long time since I've posted anything! I guess we've been busy, but mostly I can't really think of anything to blog about.

I'm excited that Halloween is coming up. I LOVE dressing up my kids in their costumes, watching "Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin", eating candy and drinking hot apple cider. (Fall has always been my favorite season.) This year, my kids are going as characters from Anna's favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz. Anna's going as Dorothy, Yosef's the Tin Man, Biniam's the Scarecrow, and Kaitlyn's the Lion. So far I have Anna's costume, but none of the others. I better get on it!

Last year we went to the church harvest festival but this year I think we'll be trick-or-treating! My kids love ringing doorbells so I figure they'll have a blast.

I'm also looking forward to continuing the tradition we started last year of making and decorating Halloween cookies. The kids had SO MUCH fun and so did we. I'm also hoping to make it to a pumpkin patch to choose some pumpkins and then also carve them.

I'm not a very creative person, but I do enjoy doing festive things for the different holidays. What Halloween/Fall traditions do you have???

okay, your kids are going to be so cute all dressed up. we go to a neighbor's house for chili and cornbread; then, the dads take the kids out trick-or-treating and then go to the grace bible church harvest festival thing. my kids haven't made it there, because trick-or-treating is usually enough for them. i love fall, too.

I still don't have any idea what I'll do with Elias. Last year we wanted to take Eli to our local churches harvest carnival but our older daughter had other plans. So this year we are determined to take him. He will love it I'm sure.
BTW, we are going through the process to do foster-adoption (a low risk placement) and are hoping for a little brother for our sweet son.

Ohhh, maybe we can all go trick or treating together?! I didn't want to just go with Henry, because that's silly, but maybe we can team up!

Actually, unless something changes, I believe the church thing has been cancelled. I don't think they've formally announced it but they have given Dori a month leave of absence and the Harvest Festival was her gig. They were thinking of having someone else do it, but I think they've decided to just cancel it altogether instead for this year.

I just recently have ran across your blog and have really enjoyed reading it. YOu have a beautiful family.

I love Halloween and my 2 little girls are going with the Wizard of Oz theme too. My oldest is going to be Dorothy and my youngest is going to be the lion.

They are already excited about trick-or-treating and it is hard to explain to them that it is still weeks away. I did buy things today that we can start making treat bags for the Pre-school class, sunday school and library story hour kids. Hopefully that will hold my 2 1/2 year old off from all of the "when are we going trick-or-treating" questions.

I'm glad you shared your excitement about the fall season and Halloween. Some people are against it and I never want to offend anyone. I love this time too, I think because it makes me feel like a kid. When I was growing up my dad would always take my sister and I to a pumpkin patch where we got to pick our own pumpkins (usually it was avila valley barn when we were in slo), then the day before Halloween we would all sit down together and carve them. Our neighborhood in slo (a culedesac) would get together and do a carving contest, bob for apples, bonfire, etc. It was really fun! My sister and I watched all the disney halloween cartoons (as well as charlie brown) after we got back from trick-or-treating. We'd sit and watch and eat all our candy.

I hope to have similar traditions with my new family (we do the pumpkin patch and carving) so Kaylin can enjoy herself. She's a bit too young to go trick-or-treating, but I wish we could take her anyway because we bought the cutest costume when we were in Morro Bay in August. She's going to be a shark (i'll share pics later). We'll probably take her around just to our closest neighbors who already know her. I still have most of the cartoons recorded so we'll watch those together too. Sorry for the long ramble! Have fun with Kevin and your kiddos!
