Something ELSE odd about Colorado

So apparently this weekend is the Frozen Dead Guy Festival or something. No joke. There's a town around here that supposedly has a dead man on ice, frozen since 1933 when he died?! Each year the town has a festival where thousands of people show up for various festivities, including coffin races. Interesting.

You also might find it interesting that this positively fascinates me and I am quite tempted to go check it out. I'm weird. My lifelong dream is to tour a morgue (not sure if I'd have the courage to follow through on this...but I'm curious.)

This afternoon I got an evite to a Frozen Dead Guy Days party. Doubt we can go (because we have the kids) but you can be assured that if a magic fairy/nanny showed up at our house at 7 pm Friday night, we'd be there. (And if Kristen lived here I'd bring her along. It seems like something she'd get a kick out of!)

You CAN tour the Orange County, CA Coroner's office every October. It's quite fun, but you only see the facility itself and a few exhibits (bones, etc) not bodies or an autopsy (just the autopsy room!)

You've got to check out the festival if you can! That sounds too weird!

see amber, you need to be living here, then we could go together!!!

You are totally right! Maybe in a year or two. :-)

We'd like to come out in the summer time since we visited last year during winter. We will see.

OK, you are weird. This settles it. :)
But I did visit a mortuary in high school (were they trying to scare us away from drugs? Driving recklessly? I can't remember now, so obviously it didn't work...) We walked through the embalming room. I didn't get creeped out until I saw the drains in the tables, where all the blood would go... Oh, and there was a body on one table under a sheet, but you could see gray hair and a hand...
Hey, that was a cool field trip- maybe I'd like the Dead Guy festival, too?

i think it sounds interesting, too! and a friend of ours, her dad is a mortician and i have to stop myself from asking him all sorts of questions because you don't meet morticians everyday. and really, how do you become so comfortable making up dead bodies and embalming them? it just doesn't add up. but, the mortician is a very nice man, and not weird at all.

oh you betcha! and for some reason it makes me really proud to be the one you think of when you think of visiting a frozen dead guy. hee, hee. of course i HAVE seen corpses and passed around their innards thanks to my high school anatomy class. but i will STILL visit any morgue you have the guts to walk in to. we might just have to go in to law enforcement (cause who'd wanna be a coroner? and cause the badge is way cooler) just for that privilege alone.
