Like sand though the hourglass...

So the other day I had "Days of Our Lives" on (shhh, don't tell but I watch it occasionally), and the kids weren't quite down for their naps yet (they usually nap from noon to two, and Days comes on at noon.) Yosef walked up to the TV and started pushing the buttons, as usual, and turned it off.

Which prompted Anna to say in a loud voice, "Yosef, turn the news back on!"

Ah yes, apparently my young, impressionable daughter is now equating a soap opera with the news. Life doesn't get much better than this. (If you don't get the title of this post, clearly you are not a Days fan. Kristen, I hope you enjoyed this story, it's for you!)

Atta boy Yosef. You keep holding down the fort while Daddy's away.

Okay, so I'm just pretending I didn't read that you watch soaps "sometimes". It's easier to be friends with you that way.

I know, I know, soap operas are supposed to be for losers. Days is the only one I've ever watched...it's just darn hilarious.

I really don't take myself too seriously so I don't mind if people think I'm a loser. :)

I have been following days of Our Lives for nearly thirty years. My mom was an avid watcher when I was growing up so I saw it every summer. "Rachel, we'll go to the store after Donahue." We always had this four hour window where we couldn't leave the house. What if Marlena died while we were gone? Again? I set a timer last week so it auto records. I know... I watch it in about fifteen minutes zooming through everything but the Belle, Sean, Mimi, Phillip storyline. And who is the man with the black glove? Stephano? My real passion is "So You Think You Can Dance" Aubrey and I watch it and she claps after each performance.

I have no clue who's wearing the black glove! It's got to be one of the Dimeras (Tony or Stefano.) I'm hoping they kill Phillip off. I don't like him and CLEARLY Belle and Sean belong together. I haven't been lately but I also used to record it so I could just zip through it quickly.

I've been following Days for the last 13 years. Cracks me up that so many of the same characters are on!

Well glad to know I'm not the only Days enthusiast. When my friend Kristen lived closer, we used to sometimes get together to watch--that was back in the "Salem stalker" days. Good times...

I liked when Carli was buries alive! Oh the drama of it all. That may have been before your time though. I believe she was Frankie's sister. Oh and I really want Jen to be with Frankie. Come on Jack, just die already and get it over with.

Hey Andy, no one made you read about Days of Our Lives. Something tells me you may have seen an episode or two in the last 25 plus years.

Andy,

Do you honestly expect us to believe that your mom turned off ABC at 1 after All My Children and back on again at 2 for General Hospital and that you didn't watch One Life to Live in the middle???

Er, um, I gotta go...

That's funny Andy. I had a similar upbringing on the NBC network. I guess that's why it intrigues me now. All the kids that were kids with me are grown up which is hillarious. I do think soaps are crap. I just think Springer is worse or whatever court TV show happens to be on. It's nice to veg out for a few minutes when the little ones take a nap.

And the show has reached an all time low...

I watched days of our lives from 2nd grade to 12th grade with my grandma...you're not alone! haha, I just think its hilarious, because i dont watch it anymore, but i can turn it on and know exactly whats going on...something is so wrong about that..haha.

Christal I know! I'll go months without watching, and then can sit down, turn it on and within one show am caught up. It moves really slowly, although every once in awhile the pace picks up.

As for all the Days critics out there, hey, I'm not forcing you to watch the show with me (though if you ever want to come over at noon on a weekday, me and my TV will be here.) It's actually the only TV show I ever watch and I'm sure there are plenty of other popular shows out there that I wouldn't give the time of day, even though they're considered "cooler" than Days.

Rachel, funny you referenced court TV shows--those drive me nuts! Judge Judy is the worst, that lady is MEAN!
