Guilty pleasures

LOVE to read, but I generally don't read a lot of fiction. My sister-in-law likes to joke that I only read books about making the world a better place. WELL, sometimes a girl's gotta branch out a little.

A very fabulous someone, who shall remain nameless (as I don't know if they want to be outed), has gotten me hooked on Stephenie Meyers' Twilight Saga. I started the first book on Sunday afternoon and could.not.put.it.down. I finished it by 10 am the next morning! I have a hold on the second book in the series at the library. And the movie is coming out in December. I will be seeing it.

Yes, it may be "young adult" fiction. (About high-schoolers.) Yes, it has vampires in it. (But they're nice ones!) Sure, my (somewhat-neglected) husband thinks I'm a loser. But sorry people, I gotta have my Bella and my Edward!

So don't judge (come on now, it's written by a Mormon woman and therefore free of alcohol, drugs and sensuality), and ya'll gotta tell me--who else is secretly and obsessively reading this series???? What has been some of your own "guilty pleasure reading"???

I have been hearing SO much about this series in our little circle of teachers. I've got to read it.

wow.

really?

next you'll be telling me you watch soap operas too...oh wait, you do.

My guilty reading is craptacular celebrity gossip magazines, so I guess I can't say much. But vampires? truly?

I haven't heard of that series, but I started another Karen Kingsbury novel yesterday morning and finished last night sometime before 1:00am. So I'm right there with you. =)

I absolutly Love the "Shopaholic"
series by Sophie Kinsella... I've read all the ones written so far, and hoping she continues the series! But there is a movie coming out soon! Yay... But I'm ashamed to admit that my true "guilty pleasure" is reading all the celeb gossip on perezhilton.com!

As you may know I successfully finished all 3 while still in CO. I felt like I was neglecting poor little Aubrey and Ainsley, but they'd understand if they were older. ;) I'm hooked, but it's no secret...I've been raving about them to all my friends. :) And hey, we even got Mom to start in on them.

That was Krystal btw. :)

I know I'm late on the bandwagon for commenting on your blog as this is an older post, but just had to chime in and say of course I love the Twilight Saga too! I don't know if you saw I did post about it on my blog, too.

I just read the first two books on our recent vacation (needed something light and vacation-y) and liked them more than I expected. I appreciate that the books are "clean" but there sure seems to be a lot of very chaste sexual tension going on! Like the story is trying to be as sexy as possible but still technically clean! They're soulmates but they can barely touch, he might lose control, his touch makes her faint-- oh, it's so dramatic! I would have loved it when I was a teen I'm sure, but now it seems a little funny and contrived to me. Still. I, umm, did just buy the third book because I didn't want to wait for it at the library... Yeah, a guilty pleasure, I suppose. :)

mayhem i agree...i thought the idea that they can't be too close sorta paralleled a couple's struggle to remain sexually pure. and yeah definitely tried to create a tension. i skip over the parts that drag out too much with that stuff!

NO SENSUALITY? That's not exactly the story that I hear.

A husband wanting the cold breath of his vampiress of a wife...and your bro-in-law.

Hey Brianna,

Just so you know I am now hooked on this series. I just ran out to buy the second and third book today. What a fun guilty pleasure, and I love that the books are so clean.

Thanks for the recomendation!

I have seen these on the book store shelves and have pondered them.
I'm guilty of reading tween/teen fiction including (but not limited to) The Series of Unfortunate Events (all 12), the Eragon books, all books Narnia (of course!), even the Artemis Fowl series.
We as Moms have a responsibility to preview these books for our childern, right? And if we happen to enjoy that particular parenting duty, well...

Looks like these will be next on my "preview list".

oh paige i am so proud that you are hooked on these too! i am in good company!

I will admit, I am TOTALLY a fan of the Twilight series. I'm looking forward to the new book in a couple weeks.
These books are an absolute escape for me! I love them!
