26

So yesterday, July 14th, was my 26th birthday. I am suddenly keenly aware that I am closer to 30 than to 20, which feels really weird!

Friday night my mom and dad came down with a cake from the Madonna Inn. We all had dinner and then homemade vanilla ice cream and cake. I spent my birthday (Saturday) at Lindsey's baby shower (so fun!), then came home and took a glorious nap (you must be a mom--or an elderly person--when your idea of a good birthday includes a NAP!), then Kevin, the kids and I tried out Cool Hand Luke's here in Santa Maria for dinner. (It was pretty good, but my steak wasn't great--sad! The kids did great--Kaitlyn was a little fussy, until I nursed her to sleep. Works every time!) I got a super sweet phone message from Kevin's aunt Sharon--love and miss you!--and I also missed a nice birthday call from Kevin's parents.

The highlight of last year was, by far, the birth of my fourth child, Kaitlyn Jane. She is precious, sweet, and brings me so much joy. I had no clue how child number four would be, or how she'd fit into our family, but she is a blessing straight from God and honestly I can't BEGIN to imagine my life without her smile!

What will my 26th year bring? Not really sure. I'm not a goal-oriented person, but my hope and prayer for this next year is to become more comfortable in my own skin, so to speak. More and more I find myself longing to be more secure in my decisions, with who God created me to be, and with the works God has prepared for me to do.

So here's to being 26!

it's nice to hear the sentiment that you can't imagine life without your newest..i KNOW that i will feel like that, but i do wonder how life will work with this new one in a month. :) happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Brianna! We miss you guys, we haven't made it to church since like 1998, and we're having G3 withdrawls....

Happy 26th Birthday. When I grow up I am going to have everyone's birthdays in a planner and send cards. I wonder how old I will have to be to do that? Proably at least a grandma...

Did you nurse Kaitlyn in the restaurant? I always consider it and then chicken out! I did try to nurse during the sermon two weeks ago. Since we were are in a theater it is pretty private, but Ainsley wanted more space so we ended up in the nursery afterall.

glad your day went great!

Rachel heck yeah I nursed in the restaurant!!! I was so uptight about such things with Anna, but I'm not with Kaitlyn. I figure my kid's gotta eat! (I did peek into the restroom to see if there was a chair or stool to sit on, but no such luck, and I wasn't about to sit in a nasty stall on an open toilet.)

During the sermon, now THAT is great!!! I bet we're making La Leche League proud....

(And maybe when I'm old I'll have a planner with everyone's birthday in it too....)

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! I turn 30 next month, YIKES and am sad to leave my 20s. I am no longer always the youngest person wherever I go which is weird. I agree with the nursing! You gotta feed the kid WHEREVER they are hungry. You get better with each child too. I can nurse with no one really knowing I did. Great skill! I like your hair too, it is really cute!

Happy Belated Birthday Brianna! Here's wishing you an awesome 26th year! I am turning 25 on Monday the 23rd, so we are about 1 year and 1 week apart in age. Hopefully I will have a kid or two home from Ethiopia this time next year! It would be wonderful to celebrate my 26th birthday as a new mommy.

Side note- I totally support you nursing your little one in the restaurant. It is a food service establishment after all! ;) If everyone else can eat and drink there, then so can Kaitlyn! When I was younger I used to get really uncomfortable with people nursing in public, but it is no big deal to me now.

Forgot to ask- How is "A Love So Big..."? Are you enjoying it? I hadn't heard of it before reading the title on your sidebar. After visiting amazon.com, I was thinking about getting it (used since there are no new copies available). I am interested in starting to read more God-centered works and thought this may be a good read. Any other suggestions?

oh my goodness, you are just so old. ;)

lara--yes, you, me and midori. come back soon! (maybe we can get becky hooked too! we have all the ingredients.)

angela--honestly, the book is okay, but not really all that great (in my opinion). she wrote another one, not kid-related, that i read awhile back that was much better. as for nursing in public, i'm not very obvious about it, and it's a heck of a lot more modest than a lot of shirts women wear! so i figure, go for it!

becky--i know, i never tell anyone my bday, maybe related to how you say you don't like self-promotion? "hi, today is my bday", just not my style i guess! :) (kevin thinks this is weird.)

Happy 26th. Love the post; especially about being more secure in your decisions. I need that too! Your family is just sooooo cute :)

p.s. Woohoo on nursing at the restaurant. I did that once and my husband was a little shocked (granted I was sitting across from him boss). I'm guessing he didn't notice or care.
