A (small) series of unfortunate events

  • Remember those books I ordered? And remember how yesterday I checked the mail to see if they came? Well, one came alright. What I THOUGHT I'd ordered--The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey--turned out to be the STUDY GUIDE for the book. Dangit.

  • Last night my soon-to-be-four-years-old daughter surprised us all by taking it upon herself to cut her own hair. She says she didn't want it long anymore. So now she's got some really choppy side-bangs. Let's face it, it could have turned out a lot worse...oh who am I kidding, it could have turned out a lot BETTER had she NOT DONE IT AT ALL! (Needless to say, we have now hidden the scissors. And I'm counting down the days until our van is back in commission so I can take her in for a "real" haircut. You know, by someone older than three.)

  • My kids are out.of.control. today. Assorted crying, disobedience, mournful wailing of the words "I'm having a rough day".

Yet God is good, the sun is shining, I've got a husband who loves me, four precious children, and a mostly-clean house.

I just read an interesting booklet on Lent and hope to one day incorporate some of the church-calendar traditions into our family.

We started reading The Jesus Storybook Bible with the kids last night at bedtime and it's precious.

And so even though it may be time for me to go break up an argument, I am blessed, and so life is good.

well sadly on our way home from disneyland, i pulled into a gas station and as i pulled up to the pump, i fully bumped the van into one of the posts. SO BUMMED!!!! SO, it's having body work done on it, and it's fully going to be at the shop for a week!

yeah, no pics yet of the fantastic new hairdo. i'll post one soon!

When she was nearly 4, Abigail came home from getting her hair (professionally) cut, and within 4 hours she had "reinacted" the hair cut- giving herself a nice little "layer" around her face.

I made her keep it like that. Cuz' I mean, and I wasn't about to go spend another $20 for something that could be hidden in a ponytail.

Hope I didn't inspire Anna to DIY her hair? The girl has skills and her in mind I'm sure she thinks she's 16:-) Hang in there.. see you soon! b

I did it in kindergarten, literally cut off my bangs! Then again in fourth grade, yes fourth grade, while my hair was in curls from sponge rollers. I pulled down all the front curls and cut some off. That was the day before Thanksgiving. I also cut my cousins hair across the back when I was in first grade. Oh and there were many times in college, maybe two, that my roomates were surprised to find me with bangs in the morning when I didn't have them the night before. Actually, Mike has some stories about that too. Maybe I missed my calling, I apparently have a thing for bangs! Sorry I passed my obsession on to my niece.

So glad you love the Jesus Storybook Bible. It has truly been such a blessing to our family.
Tonight we read about Jesus' resurrection and Torie and Lexie were SO excited. SO thrilled. It was really amazing how much they "got" the story.
Thanks for your thoughts on adoption. Very insightful. I agree, adoption is not ideal. Something has been broken, and adoption is a means God can use to redeem a painful situation. Praise God for his mercy.

The Jesus Storybook Bible is my favorite kids Bible ever!

We recently started working on memorizing scripture. I wasn't sure how well they would do, but they are amazing! We started with "Jesus said, 'I am the Beginning and the Ending.' Revelation 21:13" from the front of the JSB.

it must be something in the air (or just the age), but we had a rough one, too. unfortunately, knowing you're not alone in this doesn't actually provide any relief, just maybe a little restored sanity!

Maegan recently did the same thing! You can see pics on my blog at

SO frustrating. Her LONG beautiful blonde hair GONE. She cut the back...and now it is SO short. No more piggy tails. My heart cried. But...she loves it. Her reasons for doing it cracked me up. See my post for the details...

What an encouragement you are to me. Thank you for loving your kids and encouraging us all to do the same. Can't wait to meet you face to face.

One more thing. I LOVE the book The Jesus I Never Knew. One of my all time fav's. Hope you get it soon! It is SO good.

I've been looking for a good kid's Bible. The 4 we have, I just don't like. It feels weird to say I don't like a Bible...but they don't really seem to represent the Jesus I know and love well...
I'll have to check out your recommendation! Thanks!
