So uncool

Okay so I am completely "out of the loop" on a lot of popular things. (My dad is a 6th grade teacher and will ask if I've heard of such-and-such band or some rapper his students like and I will never have heard of them. This makes me feel old!)

WELL, yesterday afternoon after getting home from church, eating lunch and putting the kids down for naps I went out to Target and Kohls. Kohls was having a big shoe sale and there were all these shoes with skulls on them! I've seen these skulls on clothes before and I'm wondering, why skulls? Does anyone know what the deal is? Are these "in" right now or something?

Hopefully someone can put this mystery to rest for me!

Hi Brianna,

I am a friend of your brother in law Mike and reguarly 'check in' on you and the kids :-)

I am certainly no expert but my .02 are that the skull has made a comeback based on two things:

1) Rock or Rocker style is pretty huge right now and a lot of rock bands have always afiliated with some form of skull logo since it is considered to be 'edgy and hard core'. You will notice that a lot of the shirts with skulls also have guitars with wings and phrases like 'Born to Rock' that seem to support this (at least in part). There is also that phrase 'Bad to the Bone' which also usually has a skull as a symbol so I guess it is supposed to be 'bad' (but in this case meaning cool and good).

2) Pirates have made a HUGE comeback (I guess we have Johnny Depp to thank for that) and the skulls are associated with that as well.

Like I say, no expert but hope that helps a little!

skulls are big rught nw and kind of edgy. i haven't had the guts to wear any, or put my boys in anything. matty would be kinda cute in a little skull tee.

As a 15-year-old I think I have the authority to say with certainty that yes, skulls are in.

gee, brianna, you're so old. hee, hee. no, i didn't know skulls were back. i liked the pirate movies, but i have to say skulls fall in that "yucky" category for me. but hey, i felt old when i went to ross today to get some summery shirts, and i saw this shirt with all these names on it (i assume from a band?), and i had no idea who they were!

side note, also saw that great shirt again that so bittery states "no one cares about your blog." always good for a smile.

Wow you are all so helpful, thank you! This was driving me nuts! (Renee it is good to "meet" you, I've visited your blog off Mike and Rachel's site before too!)

Kristen did you buy any shirts??? (Yeah I can't really picture you wearing skulls!)

I just bought Baby Boy Gibson his first pair of camo shorts for a big Land Cruiser event we go to every year at the Pismo Dunes. One of our off roading friends has his entire truck spray painted in camo...but instead of blobs, they're skulls. I was thinking of getting him a baby shirt with a skull on it in honor of Seth. (And the irony of it all, is that if you saw Seth walking down the street you'd probably grab your kid's hands and pick up the pace...but in reality, he is one of the most genuinely nice guys I've ever met! Stereotypes I tell you!)

Skulls are no longer icky...they kind of fall into the camoflague category. Used to be gross, but in and "edgy".

I seriously feel like I've been living under a rock. How did I miss the memo that skulls are in and edgy?

(Those shorts sound awesome! I loved the camo shorts you guys bought the boys back in the day! And I noticed non-baby-boy Gibson modeling them in the pics of him putting the crib together...complete with Metallica tshirt no less!)

Brianna, I was totally going to post about my Skull Metallica shirt (which is a concert shirt from their 2003 Sanitarium tour at the Coliseum), and then I read your comment about it.

Well, guess what, I'm wearing it right now. HA!

So yes, I've been outed, my big addiciton is my heavy metal and I love my small child scaring skull Metallica shirt, which will probably hit the bottom of the shirt drawer soon. So shoot me. Maybe I can be the first person to wear a Met shirt to a G3....

Andy may I say I truly do hope you wear your Metallica shirt to G3...it would be so fitting for our Santa Maria group!!!!

yeah, bought some shirts (sadly, no boy band shirts or bitter blogger shirts) and a pair of capris. last summer i had all these "just had a baby" clothes, so this summer i'm needing clothes that actually fit.

oh, and there's finally a new post on my blog. i know, i know. but i'm sure you understand why i've been a little busy.

Ohhh I'm on my way to your blog right now! Speaking of boy bands I happened to catch part of "Deal Or No Deal" the other night and the members of Hanson (remember them?!) were guests on there. They got old!

oh my goodness, i totally do remember handson! can't remember what they sang, just that they all needed haircuts. seriously, they must be old by now. what do they look like?

deal or no deal totally bugs me because it's almost the only thing ever on nbc, our only chanel, except for thursday nights when the office is on, which is the best show on nbc.

kristen i agree, deal or no deal is irritating! hanson sang that song "mmmmbop", which they did a brief rendition of on the show. weird hearing them sing it with lower voices!

their hair is shorter now, you'll be happy to know! other than that, they just look older.
