FLYING PIGS HAVE FROZEN OVER

(Or something like that. :) )

Well my friends, in unprecedented news,

THE HELDTS NOW OWN A CAR THAT WAS NOT MADE IN THE 1980's!

That's right, we are now the proud owners of a 2006 Toyota Sienna. Did I ever think I'd be so jazzed about having a minivan? No, but that was before I was hauling my kids around in a 1988 Lincoln Towncar the size of Texas!
Our sweet friends Troy and Becky delivered the car to us last night--thanks guys! (That's Troy looking oh-so-cool in the driver's seat.) It's so roomy inside! No more sitting three across in the front seat, Kaitlyn in her carseat in the middle, where the driver has to push her over to steer. No more being stuffed like sardines in a car with a busted air conditioner. No more being known as the couple at church that drives that beat-up old beast of a car. I can now have the guy at Albertsons help me out with my groceries and be able to hold my head up high! No more sitting in the church parking lot and having a woman we don't know come over to us and incredulously ask, "How many kids are you fitting in that car?!"

God is good and we feel very blessed to have gotten a steal of a deal. Check out Web Cars and Trucks, which is a local Christian business we purchased the van from. (We know the owner as well as the manager. It's part of a great non-profit organization mentoring young men.)

So...anybody wanna buy a 1988 Lincoln Towncar? :)

I am so excited for you guys! We just got our Honda Odyssey last week, and it took about five minutes for me to get over the minivan stereotype and fall in love! Aren't automatic sliding doors the best thing since disposable diapers?

Shana I know! I hadn't commmented on your post yet but yeah, it's pretty awesome! SUVs look cooler, but I'm okay with going the more economical route, even if I look like a soccer mom (I do have four kids so I think I probably have to get over that). :) Funny that we both got vans so close together!

woohoo!!! that is awesome! i'm in the market for a car to fit mine 3 across. maybe sean'll let me upgrade to the towncar?!

Brianna Heldt said...

lindsey YES! one can only hope that you can convince sean to let you buy the towncar. hee, hee, hee....

(what cars are you guys thinking about?)

oh so fun and it is beautiful!!! it will make life SO much simpler, we will never go back. the question for us now is....what comes after the minivan? if we adopted one more child, we have no room! it is hard to imagine driving a 10 seater van before i am THIRTY!

part of me thinks the towncar should be memorialized in some hall of fame. the other part thinks, just take it to the dump! isn't there some place that will buy your junker and hall it away for free (seen the commercial but obviously don't pay enough attention to catch the name).

CONGRATS!!!! Yes, this was my guess in my email. it's beautiful! i'm slightly jealouse, i have to say. but i'm so, so glad you don't have to drive the beast anymore (you should know we always referred to it as "kevin's" car even though you drove it with the kids. i never did you the dishonor of calling it "brianna's car". hee, hee ;)). and i'm really glad you and the kiddos are in a more reliable car. oh, i remember the good stories of you getting stuck places (wasn't the towncar responsible for you walking all the way home with your shopping cart? how i would have loved to see that! you cracking up the whole way!)

ah, such good stories. yea for the heldts!!!!!

Shelley, oh man I know, what will you guys do??? We seriously talked about skipping the minivan and going straight to the van but opted for this instead. We'll probably be a 10-seater family when it's all said and done, which is hilarious. What do you guys drive now?

Kristen, YES it was responsible for me hiking home pushing a shopping cart FOUR MONTHS PREGNANT! We'll try to sell it and should at least get a few hundred bucks for it. It actually runs really well, it's just not particularly pleasing to the eye. :)

Yahooo!!! That's such exciting news. I remember when Kevin's car (ditto what Kristen said) got hit and he could have gotten like $1000 dollars cash, but he chose to get it fixed instead. He was probably thinking of his future wife and kids that would be driving around in it:). Enjoy the new ride!!!

Woohoo! I too am so jazzed for you! It's silly that we care about cars, but at the same time, the Lincoln wasn't the safest or most reliable of cars for a mom and four little ones...not that anything circa 1982 would be...so nothing specific to the Lincoln! I think you'll look back in a year and wonder how on earth you ever did it before!

Hey, nice ride and congratulations. I sold my precious baby (the car i LOVED) to get an 04 Sienna and I must admit I've never looked back. It's the coolest a mom can get!

Hey! Us, too! We just traded our '86 Conversion Van for something less slack-jawed-yokel. Isn't it much better?

You should know that Troy left a comment for me.. he obviously likes being in the driver seat! I'm so happy for you guys.. welcome to remote entry!

Wow, congrats you guys, that will be so nice! I definitely remember that old car; Kevin was so proud of it! (not sure why :)) We're getting close to needing a new car too, but I don't think we'll be ready for the minivan for a little bit still!

minivans rock, I wouldn't think of trading it in for an SUV. As long as I have a kid in a carseat, I will have a car with sliding doors :) Enjoy your luxury vehicle. If you want to give it an 18 hour test drive, let us know!!!
