Apparently my oldest daughter loves snakes. Last weekend Kevin's aunt Sharon took us to the Denver aquarium, where I think the highlight for Anna was an outdoor reptile petting zoo. This kid had no fear, was holding, petting and playing with an assortment of boas and pythons.
AND this past Wednesday, a man was at the park with a dog that my kids were petting, and all of a sudden, to their delight, he pulled a snake out of his shirt!
(Just for the record, I HATE snakes, always have, and I refuse to touch them or go anywhere near them. So Anna doesn't get this trait from me! I must say I was pretty proud of her!)

Seeing these pictures puts a lump in my tummy. I guess I don't like 4 year olds handling snakes. Yikes!
that's pretty awesome of anna! can't say i relate to that at all, but it's always awesome when a girl isn't afraid of things like that. but the guy pulling a snake out of his shirt would have totally freaked me out. Eww!
anna is fearless! great finds at the thrift shop and thank you for posting the article about ethiopia. it is good to be reminded about how much need there is in the world-something i easily forget because i am surrounded by plenty. sorry you are a little homesick. we miss our wednesday nights, too.
That is pretty cool! I happen to like snakes too (as well as spiders and other critters that make most women run for cover!LOL)so I can relate.
What?! He just happened to pull a snake out of his shirt?? Um-- random :)
That's my niece! I had a 6 ft Boa in high school named Gertrude, so I was excited to see her being so brave. Snakes get a bum rap. Most are pretty docile and harmless. Keep her away from reticulated pythons, water mocassins, anadoncas, rattle snakes, and coral snakes and she should be good to go. :) Maybe Uncle Mike will have to buy one as a pet again. Aunt Rachel would love it!
Ummm...I was stressed out just seeing the pictures...I am such a chicken! I just wrote an entire novel for a blog entry on my latest encounter with a snake...scary!
However, I think it is so cool that children don't seem to be born with some of these learned fears and the better they are for it! My boys are not afraid either and I am so grateful that, for now, they are not crippled with fear like their pitiful Momma!
