As we attempt to settle in here and make a life for ourselves, we're having a pretty good time, and our kids are transitioning well. (Rough going for awhile behavior-wise, but they're pulling out of it.) So far they enjoy time with their cousins, the occasional weekday lunch with Daddy, and our weekly playdate with some families who have children from Ethiopia. I'm enjoying getting to know some new friends (we girls even went out to dinner, just the four of us, Tuesday night!), time with my sister-in-law (truly a saint for not killing me when I was 40 minutes, yes 40 minutes, late to the zoo!), and shopping, which is always fun even if you don't buy anything. :)
We are falling in love with our city. I'll post about that soon.
And in completely unrelated news, I'm excited because I'm reading a great book right now, "In Their Own Voices: Transracial Adoptees Tell Their Stories" by Rita J. Simon and Rhonda M. Roorda, and also just checked out two from the library that I can't wait to start: "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Housseini and "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama.
Happy Thursday!

you are going to love and cry reading thousand splendid suns. it's amazing. and, love all the pics of the kids. kaitlyn has changed so much already! so glad that you are loving life in denver so far. i'm so impressed--you already have weekly playdates! and you were worried about making friends? we're really happy for you.
Hi! I'm a lurker from Mary's Owlhaven blog. We have two boys adopted from Ethiopia through AAI who came home in 2003. They are now almost 5 and 9 (today!). I also have two bio sons ages 11 and 13. You will love Splendid Suns. My husband just came back from serving in Afghanistan and I've been really interested in the culture. I read Kite Runner first and loved it so much that I borrowed Splendid Suns from the library and read it in two days--an amazing thing with four boys. I just finished Kabul Beauty School, a non-fiction story about an American woman who opens a beauty school (duh!) in Afghanistan to help women earn money to support their families. If you like Slendid Suns, please read it! You'll love it! Great to finally "meet" you.
I love the picture of Anna and Aubrey holding hands. In the future please feel free to crop my butt right on out of those types of pictures :)
You do seem like you have been very busy. I am so proud of you for getting yourself out there. It is tough to do.
